Batman Begins Movie Review
Batman Begins is a 2005 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale and Liam Neeson. It’s an overrated mediocrity.

I find this entire trilogy extremely overrated, especially the second entry, but this first one started it off on a wrong foot from the first sequence. It is an origin story for Batman, and not only have we seen this done before and done much better, but this version of that story is so incredibly bleak, dull and frustratingly bland that I simply couldn’t get invested in it.
The film has very good dialogue, there is no doubt about it. However, it’s also overbearing, and bordering on overly serious and pretentious at times. I like dialogue-heavy movies, but this was approached in an annoyingly pompous manner so I lost my interest in it pretty quickly.
The action is absolutely mediocre in every sequence. Yes, Nolan has never been known for good action sequences, and here he doesn’t disappoint in that regard – the action here plays a second fiddle to the plot and dialogue, but not in a good way. When the movie needs to be exciting, it fails utterly as that entire third act feels familiar, uninteresting and simply not executed in any entertaining way whatsoever.

Let’s talk about the characters. Christian Bale’s Batman is the most overrated portrayal of this famous character of all time, no question about it. Bale is a good actor, but he’s also pretty one-note when you think about, and here I simply never bought him in this role in any capacity at all. He sounds like Christian Bale, he is never Bruce Wayne, and he most certainly is not Batman as his Batman voice is ridiculously “cool” to the point of it becoming laughable.
I did like Liam Neeson in the role of Ra’s al Ghul though. He’s very good and the character is the most intriguing member of this cast. Alfred is also pretty good and Michael Caine was perfectly cast in the role. Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon is solid too. But everyone else including the other villains and the love interest are boring, bland and pointless when all is said and done.

Batman Begins also looks mediocre. This is a dark Batman movie, but not in a good way. Not only is it devoid of any entertainment to it whatsoever, but it’s also darkly shot, not at all memorable in its sets or its score. Its themes and dialogue are solid, but still for a superhero film, this fails utterly and it’s just a crime drama flick which isn’t great in that genre either.
Batman Begins has pretty good, but overbearing dialogue. Some of the characters and acting are pretty good, but Christian Bale’s Batman is so mediocre and bland. The entire film plays like a crime drama, and not a particularly interesting one at that. As a superhero movie, it fails utterly as it lacks any entertainment factor to it whatsoever with very weak action sequences and an overly dark, depressing approach to storytelling.
