Angel Puss (1944)
Angel Puss Review
Angel Puss is a 1944 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is quite a weak cartoon.
It follows a black boy who is being followed by a white angel cat to his major frustration. When he kills the cat, nine of them appear and continue following him. I found the premise solid, albeit not great. The central character is also memorable and likable. I do not find this movie all too racist when compared to some other more hateful Looney Tunes so its inclusion in the Censored Eleven is rather questionable.
Angel Puss certainly has its fine moments such as that conclusion and the overall atmosphere is excellent and very well achieved. However, the movie is way too slow owing to the pace that drags and a premise that doesn’t support the full seven-minute runtime. Thus, the movie never quite achieved enough momentum to be considered good or a valuable addition to the series.
Angel Puss has its moments, a good atmosphere and solid characters, but the pace drags, the runtime is prolonged and the film is too slim overall.
