American Horror Story: Apocalypse
Apocalypse is the eighth season of American Horror Story and the best one since ‘Freak Show’ as it’s refreshing and fun.

So basically, for this season they brought back the witches from ‘Coven’ as well as some important characters from ‘Murder House’, thus successfully confirming that everything in this show is connected and all the seasons are in one great television universe.
The season started off strongly with memorable new characters and its apocalyptic underground setting and situations were memorable. But eventually, that was all dropped in favor of the aforementioned stuff so this beginning overall felt unimportant in the bigger scope of things.
What I loved is the action here, particularly in that superb finale which is one of the most purely entertaining episodes ever of AHS. I loved the battle with the villain, I loved all of the gruesome deaths and everything was resolved so well, though admittedly in a bit rushed manner.
Kathy Bates basically plays a robot in this season and she’s excellent at it. She’s quite a memorable, imposing villain. Speaking of villains, Cody Fern isn’t the most exciting actor, but ultimately Michael Langdon was a solid villain. He’s a lot of fun, though his indeterminate goals and actions felt silly, much in the vein of Kylo Ren in ‘The Last Jedi’.
Adina Porter as Dinah is also very good, and the actress is quickly becoming one of the staples of the show. I liked the return of Madison and Queenie, both as fun as they always are. Cheyenne Jackson is entirely wasted and forgettable in this particular season whereas Billy Lourd as Mallory is very memorable and powerful.

Evan Peters plays so many characters that his impact gets diluted unfortunately, and the new characters are never particularly interesting. It’s a shame that he ended his long reign on the show on such a weak note. But thankfully Sarah Poulson really delivered in all three of her roles with the highlight of course being terrific, fan-favorite Cordelia. The return of Jessica Lange in two episodes was of course glorious to behold.
Overall, this season is a giant mess, but most of it really works. The structure is all wrong, but the mixing of the different seasons was ultimately achieved surprisingly deftly, and in particular I enjoyed the villains and the action this time around.
Worst Episodes: The Morning After and Traitor.
Best Episodes: The End and Apocalypse Then.
