Alpine Climbers (1936)
Alpine Climbers Review
Alpine Climbers is a 1936 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a solid flick.
It lacks Goofy, but both Donald and Mickey are here with the welcome addition of Pluto as well. They are in the Alps where Mickey angers the eagle mother whereas Donald gets into a fight with a goat. Meanwhile, in the best part of the cartoon, Pluto is saved from ice by a St. Bernard dog and the two fall in love. I just adored that part as it was so sweet and romantic. Really cute.
Mickey is okay and Donald is pretty solid, but a far cry from his usual adventures. The film is overlong for sure and never particularly funny, but it is mostly pretty amusing and endearing with the animation of the Alps being gorgeous with a fantastic color palette and strong animal/plant depictions. It’s one of those shorts that are far from great, but so pleasant that you can’t help but really like.
Alpine Climbers is flawed and overlong, but mostly very endearing and particularly cute in Pluto’s romantic escapades.
