All Out for ‘V’ (1942)
All Out for ‘V’ Review
All Out for ‘V’ is a 1942 animated short film from the Terrytoons series. It is actually a rather solid short.
Let’s first get the negatives out of the way. This movie follows a bunch of animals working and making stuff, helping the American people in their own way during World War II. So obviously this is another one of those patriotic war movies and it’s exceedingly patriotic to the point of being very annoying. Now, they want to destroy the animals too. Argh.
However, despite all of that transgressive nonsense, the movie is solid simply because it’s fun and charming in a way. But to go into more detail, the animation is actually very strong and colorful with sweet looking animals. I liked the action on screen as it reminded me so pleasantly of the animal help from ‘Snow White’. And of course the score is the highlight. The song here is absolutely terrific as it’s so old-fashioned and incredibly catchy with the final couple of lines being grand in quality.
All Out for ‘V’ is certainly exceedingly patriotic, but this Oscar-nominated short is otherwise quite solid thanks to superb animation and wonderful music.
