Alice’s Balloon Race is a 1926 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s a flawed short.

Alice and Julius are in a balloon race for the monetary reward. This is one of those Alice Comedies that had the potential to be genuinely great, but unfortunately failed to do so. The animation is pretty good and some of the balloon action was fun. I also liked Julius here and the movie being shorter than usual made for a more enjoyable, brisker experience.

But they failed to imbue the movie with truly memorable action set pieces and amusing gags. Alice is sidelined per usual and the other characters are forgettable too. There is a lack of unique ideas in the gags department and the movie ended up being just solid and never particularly great.

Alice’s Balloon Race had a stellar premise, but the execution is only okay. It has its moments, but for the most part it was forgettable.
