A Ham in a Role (1949)
A Ham in a Role Review
A Ham in a Role is a 1949 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a weaker entry.
Goofy Gophers aren’t really classics when it comes to Looney Tunes characters. The problem with this short is also that it includes an unnamed dog who is obsessed with the works of Shakespeare and he regularly recites those lines. Thus, it became chaotic and oddly put together.
I actually liked the dog more than I liked those critters in this one. He can be amusing with his recitals and the idea is foolish and cartoony enough that it worked in the end. The animation and score are also pretty good. But the humor and the action are never great and the gophers are weak.
A Ham in a Role closes out the year of 1949 as well as the entire decade in a weak fashion, but I am anxiously looking forward to the fifties which were the golden age for the series.
