A Gentleman’s Gentleman (1941)
A Gentleman’s Gentleman Review
A Gentleman’s Gentleman a 1941 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is such a sweet flick.
Pluto here acts as Mickey’s valet and he is sent to deliver the newspapers to him while he is drinking coffee in bed. But he of course goes into trouble when he sees himself in the papers in the comics form and then, just like in there, ends up in a mud. I found the second act of this cartoon rather uneventful and the weakest segment in here for sure, but the rest of it is pretty strong.
Mickey here acts like a rich asshole which was somehow rather funny to me, but the ending is still sweet between the two. Pluto of course is the star of the film and he is reliably excellent. That dog walk was a terrific gag, but the highlight was of course seeing himself in the newspapers. That was a great touch that really worked. The movie is quite original and of course so well animated.
A Gentleman’s Gentleman has its problems, but it’s for the most part a charming flick with one highly authentic scene and a great use of Pluto.
