A Coy Decoy (1941)
A Coy Decoy Review
A Coy Decoy is a 1941 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very disappointing short.
It happens in a bookstore where Daffy has to escape from the wolf among other things. Now, I do love Daffy here and he has his moments with the wolf scene being the standout part for sure. That was so well done. I also loved the incorporation of the various books into the story as that was interestingly done. The film is short and thus quite entertaining.
A Coy Decoy is a very problematic short, highly flawed and honestly incredibly messy at times. Above I stated that it has its very good moments, but let’s comment on the bad things. Certainly Porky Pig getting again a short end of the stick is bad, but what’s worse is how Daffy is not utilized well here and was not as hilarious as he usually is. The entire first half also is troublesome as it isn’t as memorable and the part with the black woman is horrendously racist.
A Coy Decoy has its very good scenes and an interesting setup, but some weaker scenes and underutilized characters.
