Goofy and Wilbur (1939)

Goofy and Wilbur Review
Goofy and Wilbur is a 1939 animated short film from the Goofy series. It is a pretty flawed, but charming flick.
Goofy goes fishing with his pet grasshopper, Wilbur, who acts as bait by jumping across the water to attract the fish. This was the first official Goofy short in his own series and it’s not the best one, but it was a solid start regardless. My main issue here is that this is not his movie per say as the grasshopper got much more screen time. I wanted more Goofy and his shenanigans.
With that being said, Wilbur is so endearing and it’s difficult not to root for him against all those fish. While the gags and action are on the repetitive side of things, they were still well executed and reasonably diverting. The final sequence was adorable and emotionally earned. The animation is also stellar and wonderfully polished.
