Half Empty Saddles Review

Half Empty Saddles Review

Half Empty Saddles is a 1958 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty solid short.

Woody Woodpecker is wandering around the wild west again seeking to find some buried gold and he tangles with a crook who wishes to find the gold for himself. This is a familiar premise and we’ve seen stronger movies about a crook facing against Woody before. This one failed to do anything unique with either the setting or the basic concept.

But this formula works, so ultimately the movie was a lot of fun. The crook was amusing and well realized and Woody was hilariously devious. The highlight is the third act with a very fun and memorable ending. The animation is solid, but nothing particularly remarkable.

Half Empty Saddles has a fun ending and a great dynamic between the characters, but minus points go to its familiarity.

My Rating – 3.7
