Slide, Donald, Slide Review

Slide, Donald, Slide Review

Slide, Donald, Slide is a 1949 animated short film produced by Disney. It is a pretty solid flick.

Spike the Bee listens to classical music on the radio that Donald has in his backyard, but when Donald arrives, he changes the station to listen to the baseball game. Both start a fight in which they constantly change the radio station to listen to what they want. Donald fighting an insect has become quite a tiresome formula by now and certainly this movie is very uninspired and of course illogical in its plot. It’s also far from really funny.

But it is suitably diverting and at times genuinely endearing. Spike is quite adorable and Donald was very amusing. The animation is stellar, the score is naturally terrific and the movie is at its best when it’s focusing on music itself. The scenarios were repetitive, but the movie was still very entertaining and it ended with such a great, funny sequence.

Slide, Donald, Slide has a familiar premise, but solid characterization and a fun ending elevated it to being quite a solid flick.

My Rating – 3.8
