Human Resources Season 2 Review

The second season of Human Resources is a strong improvement upon its very weak predecessor and it’s a shame that the show ended right when it finally found its footing.

I adore making love in a bubble bath.

It’s so dirty.

And yet so clean

The Jizz Mitzvah continues some plot points from the end of the first season while introducing new storylines. Montel wanting to be a Shame Wizard and his parents opposing it was the highlight of this episode. The Tell-Tale Dick is another solid, but hardly memorable episode.

Total RePaul is a very strong episode that has a great arc for Walter as he tries to help a man move on after the loss of his wife. Maury advising Pete how to get rid of a dangerous penis stalking him made for some ridiculous, but very funny comedic bits. A League of Their Hormone is another fun episode that is particularly great in Connie’s softball team scenes. It introduced the romance between Pete and Rochelle, who turned into a hate-worm. It’s a well explored relationship throughout the season.

Rochelle, Rochelle is a character study that mostly worked, though I still prefer storylines involving our old-favorites Connie and Maury. Paul Me By Your Name deals with Emmy’s tragic backstory in a very emotional manner. This subplot was very touching and quite effective. It is also a hilarious episode in the subplot where Walter moves in with his boyfriend Simon. The two having gay sex throughout this episode in various positions and locations made for very funny imagery.

Tony: The Life of an Office Cold is all about a virus and his life. This type of story South Park and other animated shows did before, so this one lacked originality, but it was very well executed and entertaining regardless. Pity Party and On the Daughterfront are both the weakest episodes of the season as they added nothing new to the table, being only serviceable, but lacking in memorable humor or plot points. Yipee Ki-Hate, Motherfucker is a pretty solid finale that ended with an all-out war between the regular monsters and the hate-filled ones. It’s not great, but it ended the season and the show solidly.

Overall, the second season of Human Resources had its weaker episodes and an unfortunate emphasis on some less interesting characters once again, but Maury and Connie got to shine in more than a couple of episodes while some other characters were also strong, Walter, Rochelle and Emmy being the best ones. It’s a pretty funny and more emotionally engaging season that finally saw the show gain its footing, which made its ultimate closure all the more frustrating.

Worst Episodes: Pity Party and On the Daughterfront.

Best Episodes: Total RePaul and Paul Me By Your Name.

My Rating – 3.7
