Senorela and the Glass Huarache Review

Senorela and the Glass Huarache is a 1964 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a terrific flick.

This is basically a parody of Cinderella, being in essence a Mexican/Spanish take on the famous story. It’s the last one-off cartoon during the classic era of short films and I am certainly going to miss these animations as when they were done right, they could be superb. While this one is hardly hilarious and the first half isn’t as funny as the second one, the execution of this familiar premise was mostly very exuberant and pleasingly irreverent.

This movie uses the new Looney Tunes credits. I am going to miss the old classic one, but this one is fitting to the sixties time period and it worked out well for the series. What was also unique about this short is the animation, which is undeniably very appealing and gorgeous in its limited animation and minimalist aesthetic that is more similar to the ‘Pink Panther’ series than the usual Looney Tunes style. The Mexican names and pronunciations were consistently funny and they never got old. They really knew how to make a culturally authentic version of an otherwise European tale. The highlight is that absolutely hysterical twist ending.

Senorela and the Glass Huarache features a clever twist ending, gorgeous animation and a wonderfully unique take on the oft-adapted fairy tale.

My Rating – 4.1
