Fifty Shades Freed Movie Review
Fifty Shades Freed is a 2018 erotic romantic drama film directed by James Foley and starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. It’s a very poor final installment in this franchise.

Anastasia and Christian get married, but Jack Hyde continues to threaten their relationship. Everything that I’ve said about the second entry also applies here. Gone is at least some semblance of plot of the original in favor of too many disconnected, scattershot plot points that are thrown in there for good measure, but none of them stick properly.
The entire thriller storyline here was ridiculous, dumb and very badly written. The Jack Hyde character is so poorly written and so horribly acted that he should have been left out of these movies. None of those scenes that are supposed to suspenseful are intense at all, but are laughable how weakly executed they are.
Another major plot point is Anastasia’s pregnancy that makes Christian nervous. This issue is also brushed aside, though it fares much better than the aforementioned storyline. The rest of the movie consists of their honeymoon, buying a house together and starting their new life together while also still engaging in BDSM practices.
It’s a movie that was obviously just filled with countless disparate threads in order to have a third entry and a trilogy. It was unnecessary, that’s for sure. What I liked about it is the much more dynamic, playful and even funny relationship between the main duo. Finally, the sex scenes aren’t overly serious, but actually entertaining and self-aware, which I appreciated.

Fifty Shades Freed looks good and is fun to watch, but the displays of wealth by now had become too obnoxious. Again, it’s undeniably entertaining, but also annoying in that extremely capitalist approach. As for the pacing and structure, they are terrible as is the directing. The sex scenes saved this film as they are both appealing and amusing. Johnson is just as good here as she was before and Dornan’s performance was also improved, but other actors were quite bad.
