This Is a Life? (1955)
This Is a Life? Review
This Is a Life? is a 1955 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very amusing short.
Elmer Fudd brings Bugs Bunny on a parody of This Is Your Life where he and Yosemite Sam try to get revenge on the rabbit. Daffy Duck laments that the show is not about him. This is one of the rare cartoons where Bugs stars with all of his major villains. The entire premise is clever and the execution is mostly excellent. It’s one of the most original shorts in quite a while from Warner Bros.
Daffy is clearly the highlight here. He’s hilarious and Granny hitting him on the head with her umbrella provided the funniest moments in the cartoon. Bugs is also very good, but not as amazing as you’d think he would be in this scenario. I also really liked Elmer Fudd in such a great role for him. The animation is great and the structure is excellent, but those Bugs flashbacks were just filler material consisting of previous episodes and those did grind the mid section to a halt.
