In the Pink of the Night (1969)
In the Pink of the Night Review
In the Pink of the Night is a 1969 animated short film from the Pink Panther series.
The Pink Panther buys a cuckoo clock so he can wake up early in the morning. However, since the panther is unwilling to wake up, the sentient cuckoo bird uses various methods to try and wake him up. I loved this short. Certainly, the beginning is rather standard as the premise isn’t the most original out there, but the execution of the second half is so great that the movie ended up being a gem.
Yes, I found that cuckoo so amusing and incredibly cute. And the end twist with the two sleeping in bed and being in cahoots against that clock was not only funny, but so incredibly endearing. The whole movie is immensely cute, and the animation is also excellent. It’s the perfect example of the execution being better than the concept.
In the Pink of the Night transcends its familiar premise with great execution and a fantastic finale.
