Don’t Give Up the Sheep (1953)
Don’t Give Up the Sheep Review
Don’t Give Up the Sheep is a 1953 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a solid, but flawed flick.
Like all Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog cartoons, this one is also mostly silent and composed of slapstick gags. What I admired here is the animation among other things. It has that classic, very polished feel to it with both designs and imagery being quite memorable. Some of the slapstick humor is also excellent.
But most of it felt repetitive and the short isn’t the most engaging out of these particular flicks. But still, I liked both Ralph and Sam, both are excellent here, and Sam is particularly fun and cool. The movie has that smooth, classic slapstick style to it, but the execution is more of a hit-and-miss variety when it comes to its humor.
Don’t Give Up the Sheep is an uneven short, but the characterization and animation are both strong.
