Best and Worst Films from November 2019

Best Films from November 2019:

3. Doctor Sleep

I did not get to see a lot of truly great movies during this month so Doctor Sleep easily gets the third spot. It’s such an underrated sequel to ‘The Shining’ that is much different than that film, but for the better as it could never compare of course. I loved the central villain how powerful and fun she was, the characters are all around great and the film is incredibly dark throughout. It’s simply a very entertaining flick that flies by how enjoyable it is.

2. Dodsworth

Dodsworth is another underrated film being one of the most underappreciated 30s offerings. Walter Huston’s performance here is so remarkable whereas Wyler’s direction is terrific. The movie actually takes a realistic look into a failing marriage that gets progressively worse. Thus, it is incredibly grounded in reality and bold for this decade while being very emotional throughout.

1. The Lunchbox

The Lunchbox is an Indian romance full of color, heart, charm and immediate, meticulous details. It features unforgettable sidekick characters, amazing humor, a timeless romance and many beautiful themes and inspirational observations. It’s a film concerned with everyday life and activities while it hints at some universal problems and feelings beautifully. Ultimately, it’s not just the best movie I watched in November, but one of the greatest films released in the 2010s decade.

3. The Counterfeiters

The Counterfeiters is such a regular, boring and typical WWII flick which has a solid conflict at the center of it, but it’s not explored well enough. What we get is standard storytelling instead, and one truly undeserved Oscar winner. It’s not a bad movie, but it’s not good either.

2. The Lion King

But this one is truly bad. Yes, this remake is the worst that Disney has done so far. It has no original elements to it whatsoever, rendering it entirely pointless and unnecessary. But the washed-up colors, the lack of magic in it and the lack of any momentum to the musical numbers made it a very pale copy of the original classic.

1. Superman III

Naturally, the first spot belongs to this terrible sequel. While it has its charming romantic moments, this flick is overall incredibly cheesy, dated and filled with slapstick to the point of exhaustion. Everything here is so campy with almost no action or spectacle present anywhere.
