A Hound for Trouble (1951)
A Hound for Trouble Review
A Hound for Trouble is a 1951 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a funny flick.
This short was unexpectedly good. I’ve always liked the films with Charlie Dog, but this one breathes new life into his series with a different premise and setting. He is stranded in Italy and nobody understands him until he finds a restaurant owner to be his master, but eventually the man finds a way to get rid of the annoying dog in that very amusing finale with the famous Tower of Pisa.
I also loved the first half with the annoyed Italians, and of course the interactions between Charlie and the restaurant owner are so amusing, but to me the second half was rushed and the film itself should have been longer. Charlie is hilarious here as he usually is, and also quite manipulative, so it was somewhat weird seeing him get played out like that.
A Hound for Trouble is short, but gloriously entertaining with an unexpectedly amusing and authentic story and setting.
