Last Days of Coney Island (2015)
Last Days of Coney Island Review
Last Days of Coney Island is a 2015 animated short film directed by Ralph Bakshi.
Ralph Bakshi retired from animation for a long time, and then he returned with this short movie which was backed by Kickstarter. Having in mind that he is now very old and he had a very small budget to work with, of course I cut him some slack for the unfinished look of the finished project. And yes, the animation is actually very good given those limits.
However, in terms of storytelling this is yet another crime flick of his containing prostitutes, cops and seedy characters in seedy places. I found it entirely forgettable and typical in that regard as it goes straight in line with his 70s efforts. Some of the plot points are memorable, but for the most part the film is repetitive in what it’s trying to portray and frankly not particularly interesting.
Last Days of Coney Island has solid animation for its budget, but the characters and the plot are standard, clichéd Bakshi material.
