Doggone Cats (1947)
Doggone Cats Review
Doggone Cats is a 1947 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very weak flick.
It follows Sylvester and his brother Alan as well as a stupid dog named Wellington. Their story here is very uninspired and honestly it did not feel Looney Tuny to me at all. It’s so odd and strange in fact that it really baffled me why it exists in the first place.
It does have a solid ending and pretty good animation, but the new characters are for the most part either bland or boring with Wellington himself being highly forgettable. The short isn’t bad per say, it’s just so odd that it became quite unlikable and a strange viewing experience. And Sylvester honestly has nothing to do with it.
Doggone Cats is so different, but not in a good way, leading to what is inarguably the worst Merry Melody of 1947.
