Blitz Wolf (1942)
Blitz Wolf Review
Blitz Wolf is a 1942 animated short film from MGM directed by Tex Avery. It is a solid, but flawed short.
This is yet another parody of ‘Three Little Pigs’ and one too many for me honestly. They were just constantly doing this thing during the 30s and 40s and this is simply no ‘Pigs in a Polka’ which is a much better such movie from Warner Bros. released this same year. I found this one overlong and filled with too many WWII references for it to work to the fullest degree.
That being said, the animation truly is great and I liked both the backgrounds and the character animation. I found the score and the direction also pretty good. The humor is hit-or-miss though as sometimes it worked, but often times it was overly detailed in its war references. I did like the first half quite a bit, but the second one wasn’t as good.
Blitz Wolf is a solid Oscar nominee which has its moments and it looks and sounds good, but the humor needed more work and the runtime is too long.
