Case of the Missing Hare (1942)
Case of the Missing Hare Review
Case of the Missing Hare is a 1942 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is an excellent flick.
In this short, a magician angers Bugs Bunny so much that the rabbit eventually pays him back by humiliating him entirely in his magic show. This is obviously another Bugs Bunny classic where the character is reliably fantastic and smart. He made fun of the magician so well and he literally destroyed him in a couple of scenes that it was excessive, but still very much hilarious.
I loved the background work on this short, it’s quite exceptional. The score is forgettable, but the animation truly is phenomenal. The magician is an amusing character and a good rival for the rabbit, though he proved to be too weak later on. I loved the humor here with the best scenes being in the second half with the ending and that Bugs’ line being so incredibly funny and a perfect way to close the cartoon.
Case of the Missing Hare is a terrific Bugs Bunny entry where he destroys a magician through many funny, very well thought out pranks.
