Nutty News (1942)
Nutty News Review
Nutty News is a 1942 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very weak flick.
This is another tiresome, boring spot-gag cartoon which actually is rather short, but still it manages to be dull owing to an obvious lack of energy or inspiration. I do admit that some scenes work here such as the rabbit multiplying sequence and the one where Hitler the toy scares a child into submission. The latter one is particularly memorable and timely for 1942.
However, most of the other moments or scenes are unappealing, tedious and never really funny or amusing. The black-and-white animation is also troublesome as it’s rather unpolished and weak. The score is also pretty mediocre. As for Elmer Fudd’s narration, it’s pretty good for sure, but I am having a hard time understanding why he was chosen to just narrate the story and never appear in it at all.
Owing to a couple of odd decisions and typically tiresome format, Nutty News manages to feel tedious and slow despite a couple of solid scenes here and there.
